InterAct’s court advocates assist victims with protective orders, explain court paperwork and the legal process, assist with referrals to legal resources, and help provide criminal histories of defendants to maximize protection of victims and their children. InterAct court advocates do not provide legal advice.
InterAct’s Emergency Shelter provides a safe and supportive environment in which a victim and their family can rebuild their lives. Through providing emergency shelter and comprehensive case management services, the Emergency Shelter is designed to ensure that domestic violence victims have the resources and support to meet their basic needs and to establish safe and stable home environments free from abuse and violence.
Within the 24-hour counselor-staffed Emergency Shelter, individuals and families stay up to 8 weeks and receive support for their basic needs, individual and group counseling, and case management services. Through the many collaborations and programs spear-headed by InterAct, clients have access to job readiness and skill/interest assessments, job counseling, job training, education services, health and wellness education, financial education/counseling, case management and referrals for services such as housing, transportation and childcare.
For children staying in our emergency shelter program, InterAct’s specialized children’s counselors work with them to share their feelings of fear, anger and confusion, and to learn how to identify abuse and stay safe. Counseling throughout InterAct’s Emergency Shelter program plays an especially important role for children as it ultimately helps to decrease the damaging effects of witnessing violence in the home.
InterAct serves individuals of all ages who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. InterAct counselors are specially trained to address the safety needs and concerns of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. Counselors offer crisis counseling, information, assistance with shelter, emotional support, assistance with Domestic Violence Protective Orders and referrals to other agencies or resources as needed.
Survivors often face significant emotional and psychological barriers following abuse. InterAct counselors provide one-on-one counseling to clients of all ages and backgrounds, giving them a chance to share their stories and heal. Our goal is to empower clients in immediate crisis to make informed decisions about their situations, and to offer resources so that they may reach their goals.
- Group
Rebuilding life after abuse can feel lonely and overwhelming. InterAct’s group counseling, led by trained counselors, allow survivors to find healing and strength through shared experiences.
Group counseling is a benefit for survivors because group members can regain confidence, reduce their feelings of isolation, overcome fear and gain additional support from others experiencing similar events.
Group counseling is available for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors who have received individual counseling with InterAct. Groups are offered throughout the year in the evening. Each group session is 8 weeks. Spanish speaking groups are available.
Through InterAct’s Personal and Economic Empowerment Program, victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault are empowered to meet their basic and immediate needs, address employment challenges, advance their education and careers, and ultimately build self-sustaining lives. InterAct meets this mission through its job counseling, job training and placement services, financial literacy, health education and preventative services, health care counseling services, and financial management and educational services.
Victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence who are seeking assistance in establishing their economic independence and self-sufficiency can come to InterAct and get connected with case management and support services needed to begin rebuilding their lives.
InterAct’s sexual assault services and collaborative partnerships ensure that rape and sexual assault survivors are able to access a comprehensive system of care to address all of their emotional, legal, and medical needs.
InterAct’s counselors and case managers provide ongoing advocacy, education and emotional support to survivors of rape and sexual assault. Our counselors also coordinate legal assistance, mental health and substance abuse counseling, and forensic examination services for those who may need these services. InterAct’s effective system of coordinated care provides a strong continuum of resources and allows victims to receive support by providers who truly understand the process the victim has undergone.
InterAct has a stake firmly in the ground to prevent domestic and sexual violence in our community. InterAct’s Youth Education Services (YES) Program is specifically designed to reach out to children and youth to help them learn what it means to be in healthy relationships.
Through a strategic curriculum, versatile activities, trained facilitators, and a focus on empowering and engaging students, the YES Program effectively helps children build self-esteem, prevent dating violence before it ever starts, and stop the cycle of violence in their own lives.
